How we’re helping positively impact the Earth
Earth Day’s 2023 focus is ‘Invest in our Planet’ by building an equitable future, a healthy economy and making sustainable and ethical choices in our daily lives.
Correla sees #InvestInOurPlanet as a necessity and adds value by working with local communities and actively participating in restoration projects that benefit ecosystems, as well as promoting and creating new habitats where wildlife can thrive and nurture. Areas like this are where people can reconnect with nature and grow a greener future for the benefit of generations to come. The added benefit of spending time in green spaces is that it can benefit both your mental and physical health.
As decarbonisation is accelerated, there is an urgent need for quick, extensive action to reach net zero by 2050. This will have significant effects on the economy and society. Delivering net zero requires technological innovation, dedicated policy implementation, and behaviour change.
Striving to become a more environmentally conscious sustainable business
We’re always doing our best to reduce our carbon footprint by making both simple and complex changes to the way we, as a business, operate at every level. Whilst we continue to improve our environmental impact, we know there’s much more still to do. Some of the things we do and are currently working on will help us and our people to be greener.
In October 2022, we obtained ISO14001 Certification which laid the groundwork for compliance and shaped an effective management system that promotes continual improvement within the organisation.
The focus for 2023 is to look at our building efficiencies and identify areas that promote energy reduction. This extends to the technology we use daily; plans are underway to look for greener efficient solutions.
Working in a hybrid setting enables our people to work where they choose to. People working from home means we avoid congestion in our local towns.
Given the world’s capacity to deal with the increasing production of throwaway plastic goods, plastic pollution is now recognised as one of the most urgent issues facing the planet. We are working towards a workplace free of plastic as we are aware of the negative effects. We have since removed all our plastic cups replacing them with glass and opted for wooden cutlery and recyclable packaging. We are always promoting the use of digital documents and solutions and avoid unnecessary printing
These are just some of the things we’re doing to make a difference as Correla is generating a shift to become a more sustainable and environmentally friendly company. We are ready to face the challenge and support the industry, and the UK, to become Net Zero.
Work in the local community
Our people have been contributing and volunteering their time working on the grounds of 1st Solihull Scouts.
They were tasked with a clearing project that enabled the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts access to an area where they could learn, develop and connect with nature.
The team had a great time despite the muddy, rainy weather and tired legs. It was rewarding to see what they had accomplished. The opportunity to collaborate with team members in a new setting was also wonderful.
Putting down roots
Tree Champion at the Heart of England Forest!
For the past 18 months, every one of our new starters has contributed to Growing a Forest. We have been partnering with the #heartofEnglandforest by helping them step closer to creating a huge new forest for the benefit of the environment, wildlife, and people. The trees are part of a new native forest situated in the heart of England helping to reverse the decline of tree cover and plant new woodland that will endure for centuries to come.
